RaaS: Understanding Verisks Question Relationships and Logic

Have more questions? Submit a request

When a new product is created using RaaS, the initial questions and logic that are pulled into that product all come directly from Verisk. Many of these questions will have pre-existing rules or conditions (set by Verisk) that must be followed in order to run a quote request action. Historically, this has caused some issues for clients who wish to condense their products and hide any unnecessary Verisk questions, to only show questions that are applicable to their specific business needs. The goal of this training is to help you identify which of Verisks’ questions have pre-existing conditions and will require answers in order allow the product to function properly.

Please note, that based on how Verisk sets up their products, leaving any required question blank may result in other adverse side effects, outside of just the inability to generate a working quote. Some additional examples of what we’ve seen include: selected fields not being saved and disappearing when the page is refreshed, populated fields not carrying forward selected values when a building or location is cloned.

In the following example, we will be using Commercial Property OR 2024.10.1.1. Within this product, there are three questions tied together by Verisk logic:

  1. MUBlktRated (QID: CommercialProperty[xxx].MUBlktRated)
  2. Property & Time Element (QID: CommercialProperty[xxx].BlktRated)
  3. Included in Blanket (Qother than EQ) (QID: CommercialProperty[xxx].CommercialPropertyLocation[xxx].CommercialPropertyStructure[xxx].IncludedInBlkt)

Going forward, we will refer to these fields based off their respective QID’s: MUBlktRated (#1), BlktRated (#2), and IncludedInBlkt (#3).

Navigate to the ‘Builder’ section of your product. On the right-hand side, just above the first question, click on ‘QIDs’ and ‘Edit questions.’ This will expand the QID’s and enable you to review the individual setup of each question.

Copy the MUBlktRated QID (CommercialProperty[xxx].MUBlktRated) and search for it in the Builder.

Once found, click on the question to expand details.

Here you will see that several rules have been established for this question. The ‘Hide question’ box has been checked, answer type has been set to ‘Text’, and an initial/default answer of ‘No’ has been selected. These rules make it so that the question is invisible in the UI and it is ensured that the answer selected will always be ‘No.’

Next, copy the BlktRated QID (CommercialProperty[xxx].BlktRated) and search for it in the Builder. (Please note that the specific question may vary based on state and Verisk version, but the QID will remain the same)

Click on the question to expand the details.

Here you will see that, similar to before, BlktRated also has an initial/default answer of ‘No.’ However, unlike MUBlktRated, this question will be visible in the UI, allowing the user to modify the answer and choose from options available in a dropdown list.

This specific question has been configured such that the options available in the dropdown list will vary based on the user's answer to the prior question (MUBlktRated). In the screenshot below, Column A (Label) is the dropdown list that will be visible in the UI, Column B (Value) is what each item is stored as within the system, and Column C (QID filter column) delegates which Labels from Column A will be visible in the UI based off the answer previously given in the MUBlktRated QID question.

Look up the next QID for a more complex version of this setup (CommercialProperty[xxx].CommercialPropertyLocation[xxx].CommercialPropertyStructure[xxx].IncludedInBlkt).

The “Included in Blanket (Other than EQ)” question is configured such that the available answer choices will be based off of two previous questions: Coverage Type and Blanket Rated. If the coverage type is “Building” and Blanket Rated was “No,” the only available answer will be “No.” On the other hand, if the coverage type is “Building” and Blanket Rated was “Yes,” the user will have the option to choose between Yes or No when answering this question.

Applying this Information

Although these specific questions may not be applicable to your business, they may still be tied to other questions within the product that will cause issues if left unanswered.

For example, in the Personal Property Detail section of the Commercial Property product, there is a Valuation question (QID: CommercialProperty[xxx].CommercialPropertyLocation[xxx].CommercialPropertyStructure[xxx].CommercialPropertyOccupClass[xxx].CommercialPropertyPersonalProperty[xxx].ValuationType).

Navigate to this question and expand its details to review the configuration of its relationship dropdowns.

This question will either display “Replacement Cost” or “Actual Cash Value,” depending on selections made in five previous questions. One of which happens to be the IncludedInBlkt QID question from above. If any of the five questions are left unanswered, the Valuation question will not be visible or will not function as intended.
